EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have put into effect a five-year contract for wheat supply, with a total value reaching up to US$500 million. This agreement transitions a 2023 financing structure into a functional import mechanism for Egypt, where Al Dahra will deliver imported wheat to GASC via financing from the Abu Dhabi Exports Office, establishing the procedure for procurement under the existing arrangement.

The signing of this pact took place at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on August 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk—who also chairs GASC—present at the ceremony, alongside Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra. The announcement did not specify details such as wheat quantities, shipment schedules, origins, or the pricing method for purchases made under this agreement.
The financial framework was initially established in August 2023, when ADEX and Egyptian authorities launched a revolving import program for wheat, setting the program at US$100 million with renewal options annually over five years, allowing a potential maximum of US$500 million. This arrangement involved Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance, which joined GASC in the original setup. The 2026 supply agreement now formalizes the operational parameters for GASC to acquire wheat from Al Dahra under this financing scheme.
Implementation of the 2023 financing structure begins
ADEX, the export-finance division of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, offers funding linked directly to transactions with Emirati exporters, and in 2023, it stated that its Egypt facility would support wheat and other critical commodities supplied through Al Dahra. This financing initiative created a five-year framework for those imports involving GASC, and the current agreement maintains this structure while outlining the operational terms for Al Dahra’s imported wheat supplies.
Since beginning operations in Egypt in 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural activities in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in the country and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government over the past three years. Recently, Al Dahra noted that its broader agricultural network now extends to more than 40 markets worldwide.
Al Dahra has been active in Egypt since 2007
While the August 2026 agreement pertains specifically to imported wheat, Al Dahra also produces various agricultural commodities within Egypt. In 2023, it identified itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector producer of wheat and corn, with about 85% of its domestic farm output entering the local market at that time. The new accord pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC through the ADEX program, rather than a separate US$500 million financing initiative.
This five-year agreement enacts the financing framework announced three years earlier, replacing the need for a second US$500 million facility. As of August 27, 2026, neither the total wheat tonnage covered nor specific shipment schedules, origin breakdowns, or transaction pricing details have been disclosed. The arrangement remains a five-year wheat supply plan with a maximum value of US$500 million under ADEX financing, as confirmed on the date mentioned.
