Renault Commits Over €10 Billion to Expand Electric Vehicle Production in France

FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group announced on October 3 that it will allocate more than €10 billion in France over the upcoming five years, according to Chief Executive François Provost. The focus of this substantial investment is on the development of electric vehicles alongside more affordable car models. In 2025, Renault produced approximately 500,000 vehicles domestically in France and anticipates at least a 25% increase in local manufacturing output by 2026. Provost emphasized that this financial commitment hinges on maintaining stable social and political conditions in France and signifies the company’s ongoing transition toward electric manufacturing at its French factories.

Since 2021, Renault has invested €13 billion in France to modernize its facilities and bolster its electric vehicle segment. In July, the company highlighted that it had surpassed the milestone of one million electric vehicles designed and produced in France since 2010, with about 600,000 units originating from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub located in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 individuals across the country, and its French operations are said to support approximately 35,000 indirect jobs within its supplier network.

The company’s manufacturing network in France includes assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville, complemented by mechanical and industrial facilities in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins, all contributing to the electric vehicle transition. Specifically, Douai produces the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Additionally, Renault produces electric light commercial vehicles such as Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech models within France. Between 2022 and 2025, Renault created 700 permanent jobs at ElectriCity and added 550 temporary positions at Douai by July.

Record-Breaking Electric Vehicle Market Share in France

In September, electric cars accounted for an all-time high of 42% of new passenger car registrations in France, marking a record monthly market share. During that month, France registered 156,629 new passenger vehicles, representing an approximate 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Battery electric vehicles made up about 31% of registrations through the first nine months of 2026, compared to roughly 18% during the same period in the previous year. Meanwhile, hybrid vehicles held a 43% market share in September, narrowly surpassing fully electric models.

Renault’s forecasted increase in production aligns with this surge in electric vehicle registrations across France. In July, Renault disclosed plans for an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady strategy, contingent upon favorable conditions. This announcement followed the €13 billion already invested in the country since 2021. Provost’s recent remarks estimate that the planned investment over the next five years exceeds €10 billion, covering Renault’s current five-year commitment to its French operations.

Expansion of Renault’s Electric Manufacturing Facilities in France

By July 2026, ElectriCity’s facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced a total of 600,000 electric vehicles, with Renault 5 E-Tech electric production surpassing 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault’s electric commercial vehicle lineup, including Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech models, is produced in France as well. Between 2022 and 2025, the company added 700 permanent jobs at ElectriCity and increased temporary staffing by 550 at Douai by July.

This investment initiative extends a broader effort to spend on Renault’s French manufacturing infrastructure. Since 2021, Renault has directed €13 billion toward its domestic electric vehicle supply chain, with a 2026 production outlook that anticipates at least a 25% growth from the roughly 500,000 vehicles manufactured in France last year. Provost indicated that the latest commitment will emphasize electric vehicles and more affordable options, coinciding with the highest monthly market share for battery electric cars ever recorded in France’s new-car market.
