Apple has rolled out Reference Image, an opt-in feature designed to authenticate photographs by capturing signed sensor data when users take a shot in Reference mode. This data creates a reference image that can be compared against an edited version in the Photos app. The company is also expanding support for image metadata and the SynthID standard, with SynthID support set to be available through a software update later in 2026.
Camera controls enhanced with variable aperture
The A20 Pro chip employs a 2-nanometer manufacturing process and features a six-core CPU alongside a seven-core GPU. It also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores for AI processing. Apple claims the GPU offers performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber increases surface area, helping sustain performance during intensive tasks. The new models also support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread via Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip.
Battery life has also seen improvements across the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple specifies that eSIM-only versions can provide up to 36 hours of video playback, with the Pro Max achieving as much as 45 hours under similar conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes using compatible wired accessories. The removal of the physical SIM tray creates additional space for batteries in eSIM-only models, which will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.
Siri AI Debuts with iOS 27
The new devices come preloaded with iOS 27 and feature Siri AI through Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish scheduled for October. The software can incorporate personal context from messages, emails, and photos to better understand requests and even respond to content displayed on the screen. Apple Intelligence operates using on-device processing complemented by Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks that are supported.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max begins at $1,299. Both variants offer storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available colors include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales beginning September 18, and the devices will become available in another 20 countries and regions on September 25.
